Description
Oldbury Wells School (East) is a secondary school, formerly a secondary modern school for boys, built in 1958 by Lyons, Israel and Ellis. The building features a frame of board-marked concrete and pre-cast concrete panels, along with brick and opaque solid panels. It has a flat roof, except for the single-storey workshops and the outer edges of the hall roof, which have mono-pitched roofs. The school is one and two storeys high, with a central double-height assembly hall and double-height library, previously a small assembly hall on one side of the internal courtyard, with classrooms on the other side. Additional classrooms are arranged in a two-storey band around the assembly hall and in a wing to the north-east. A gym is located to the south-east. The building has strip windows with solid panels below and painted metal frames. At roof level, there are two circular concrete features with canted tops that project between the hall and library. A prominent boiler house chimney is a notable feature of the central courtyard. The internal surfaces consist of exposed brick and board-marked concrete.
