Description

Nos. 30 and 30A Salop Street are a house, originally built in the mid-18th century and subsequently remodelled in the later 19th century, with 20th-century additions and alterations. The building is constructed of red brick, with a rendered front and a plain tile roof, featuring two rear wall stacks. A first-floor band runs around the facade. The building is two storeys high with a two-window front. It has an L-shaped layout. The front features two late 20th-century casement windows, the one to the right being widened, flanked by a 20th-century door to the left and a 19th-century door with a flat hood to the right. Above the ground floor, two 19th-century casement windows with three lights are present. Above these, two 19th-century gabled dormers are visible, each containing a casement window; the gable peaks are formed from bricks on their edge. The rear of the building includes an 18th-century wing on the left, with a rebuilt gable of painted brick, alongside a small 20th-century addition to the left and a larger two-storey 20th-century addition to the right.

The interior includes a ground floor with a jointed span beam, chamfered and featuring lambs-tongue stops. A blocked corner fireplace with an exposed bressummer is also visible. An 18th-century two-panel door leads to a ventilated larder, and there are also two plank doors present. The staircase is characterized by horned balusters and a plain handrail. The first floor features plank and two-panel doors, and an altered rear wall fireplace. The attics showcase a substantial single-purlin roof structure, ceiled above the collars.
