Description

This primary school, built between 1954 and 1956, was designed by Chamberlin, Powell and Bon. It is constructed with glass curtain walling, featuring obscured panels in blue, yellow, and green. The exterior is predominantly dark brown brick with some areas of white glazed brick. The school is arranged with single-storey infant classrooms and two-storey junior classrooms, both grouped around their own courtyards. The central block accommodates two assembly halls and staffrooms. The elevations are largely glazed, with a white brick band positioned below the window cill level on the ground floor. Obscured panels are also present below the cill level of the upper floor and vertically between bays, coloured blue, yellow, and green where they intersect. Some end walls are finished in dark brick, and a painted timber strip runs along the roofline. A spherical, painted concrete water tower stands on a circular pier to the rear of the building. The school’s group value is enhanced by its distinctive architectural style.
