Description
The Church of St Mary is a mid-19th century building designed by Godwin. It features a rubblestone structure with ashlar dressings and a slate roof, showcasing a Decorated Gothic style. The church has an aisleless, five-bay nave, along with a crossing and transepts. A notable feature is the crossing tower topped with an ashlar broach spire, which has a unique octagonal stage instead of lucarnes, and an angel on the parapet. There is also a bellcote at the west end. The nave has flowing tracery with two-light windows, while the west end has four-light windows. There are 20th-century additions that are in keeping with the original design, and the church is recognized as an integral part of The Boltons layout.
