Description

A pair of houses, dating from the late 1840s and completed between 1849 and 1859, forming part of the planned layout of The Boltons. The area was designed by George Godwin, editor of "The Builder." The houses demonstrate a move away from classical restraint and represent the taste of the period, which was not Gothic. Their plan and scale are distinctive within London, characterized by mostly semi-detached pairs. The houses are constructed with a brick facade rendered in stucco, extending over three storeys and incorporating a basement. The ground floor features heavy rustication and vermiculated quoins. Doric porches are present, and a continuous balustraded balcony runs along the first floor. First-floor windows are distinguished by enriched architraves, consoles, and entablatures, topped by projecting eaves cornices.
