Description
The Tide Gauge House, located on the south quay of Greenland Lock, was built around 1880-1890. It features stock brick walls set on a black brick plinth, with red brick window arches that have stucco imposts and keys, as well as a similar doorcase. The building has a pyramidal slate roof with flat eaves and a finial chimney. It is a single-storey structure with one window and a square plan. Although the interior has not been inspected, a plaque indicates that this building housed a tide gauge that measured the height of the water in the river. It was incorrectly listed in the past as a guard house.
