Description
The footbridge over Greenland Dock, built in 1904, is a notable structure supplied by WG Armstrong, Whitworth and Co Ltd. It is made of cast iron and features granite steps. The bridge consists of two girder cantilever sections, each measuring 13 meters in length and partially latticed. At each end, there are three curved stone steps. This footbridge was constructed during the enlargement and modernization of Greenland Lock and Greenland Dock to accommodate larger ships. Originally, the bridge was designed to swing apart in a horizontal plane to allow ships to pass from the River Thames into Greenland Dock. In 1987, the bridge and its hydraulic machinery were refurbished.
