Description

The turntable and machinery of the former swing road bridge, which once spanned Russia Dock Passage, is a Grade II listed structure from the late 19th century. Designed by Sir W.G. Armstrong, Mitchell & Co Ltd, it represents a good example of the working parts of a hydraulic swing bridge. The structure features a hand-operated iron capstan located on the south-east side of the bridge, as well as a larger hydraulic capstan on the north-east side. The turntable and machinery were restored in the 1980s.
