Description

These are four early 19th-century houses located on the east side of Grove Lane, Southwark. The houses are built of amber brick with a stucco cornice and blocking course, and the end houses have slate mansard roofs with dormers. Each house has two bays and three storeys, plus a basement and attic. The ground-floor openings are characterised by round arches. Steps with cast-iron handrails lead to the front doors, each of which has a fluted Doric column surround, a mutule cornice head, and a fanlight; the fanlight to number 51 is particularly decorative. The windows are sash windows with glazing bars. Ground-floor windows have cast-iron guards and radial glazing in the window heads, while upper-floor windows have flat, gauged-brick arches. Iron balconies are located on the long first-floor windows. A stucco sill band is present on the first floor. The interior has not been inspected.
