Description

A row of ten houses built around 1845. The houses are constructed of stucco, with decorative banding at ground floor level. The central block, comprising numbers 208 and 210, is four storeys high with a basement, while the flanking blocks, numbers 200-206 and 212-218, are three storeys high with a basement. Each house has a main section featuring one bay on the ground and first floors, and two windows above. Recessed, two- or three-storey, one-bay entrance links connect the main sections. The front doors are set back behind porches in the style of Doric columns, topped with dentil cornices and supporting first-floor balconies with balustrades. The ground and first-floor windows are tripartite casements; those on the ground floor have pilasters and flat entablatures with dentil cornices, while those on the first floor have triangular pediments joined by a flat stucco band, with some having similar balconies to the ones above the doors. Other windows are sash windows with glazing bars in plain reveals. A third, attic, floor rises above the second-floor cornice on the central block. Recessed panels are present on the access points at the upper floors of each block. The interior has not been inspected. The group value of the houses lies in their cohesive design and strong contribution to the character of Camberwell Grove.
