Description

Numbers 1 to 6, Aberdeen Terrace are a group of six large, mid-19th century townhouses. Each house is three storeys high with a basement, and features three windows. The central entrance bays project slightly and are stucco-faced. The main fabric is greyish-yellow stock brick. Stucco quoins support an enriched entablature and parapet with cutwork panels. A second-floor sill string runs across the front, and a broad band extends from the first-floor cills down to ground level, where it incorporates guilloche moulding. Moulded stucco architraves frame all windows; those on the first and ground floors have console bracketed cornices, while the first-floor windows are topped with segmental pediments. The entrance bays are distinguished by Corinthian Order detailing framing the first-floor windows under round arches, each with a deep fan moulding in the tympanum. Ground-floor entrances are framed by a Tuscan Order, featuring a moulded architrave and scrolled keystone. Originally, each house was equipped with a balustraded area around the front door, although Number 3 has lost its balustrade.
