Description
4, 5, and 5A Eliot Place is a pair of late 18th-century houses built in 1792, each featuring three storeys, an attic, and a basement, with two windows. They are constructed of brownish-red brick and have a parapet. The mansard roof is slated and includes one square dormer. The sash windows, mostly with glazing bars, have bright red gauged brick flat arches and are set in stucco-lined reveals, although some windows have been replaced.
Number 4 has a west wing of slightly later construction, also three storeys with an attic. Its first-floor window is a three-light design under a segmental gauged brick arch. The ground floor is rendered and features a cornice, along with two later four-panel doors and one inserted window.
Number 5 has a door that is now half-glazed, situated under a patterned rectangular fanlight. This door is flanked by Corinthian pilasters that support an entablature with decorative paterae and an urn in the frieze, although this appears to be a reproduction.
Number 5A, which was originally a wing of Number 5, dates from the early 19th century and has two storeys with one window. It is made of multicoloured stock brick and also features a parapet. The first-floor sash window is a three-light design with glazing bars, flat-headed under a segmental gauged brick arch. The rendered ground floor includes a four-panel door with a plain rectangular fanlight and a modern bay window.
Numbers 1 to 8 (consecutive), The Wedge, and the forecourt walls form a group.
