Description

This is a pair of houses, numbered 2 and 3 Eliot Place, built in 1805. They are three storeys high with an attic and basement, each featuring two windows. The houses are constructed of multicoloured stock brick and have a slated mansard roof with one square dormer window containing glazing bars. The sash windows have glazed bars and are set within stucco-lined reveals, with gauged flat brick arches above.

Number 2 Eliot Place has a later four-panel double door and a plain rectangular fanlight within a stucco surround featuring vermiculation at the top. A one-story canted bay has been added to the right side. The basement has been altered to create a garage. Number 3 Eliot Place features a six-panel door with a reeded cornice above, along with a plain rectangular fanlight. The doorcase is attached and includes a reeded cornice with feather capitals supporting carved brackets and a flat hood. A London County Council blue plaque commemorates that the polar explorer, Sir James Clark Ross (1800-1862), lived here.
