Description
No. 10 Eliot Place is an early 19th century house with a later 19th century addition to the west. It is constructed of multicoloured stock brick. The original house features cornices at the second-floor level and eaves, along with a brick parapet. It stands three storeys high, with a sunk basement. Originally, it had three windows, but the central windows have been altered; the ground floor now has one window, and the second floor has two, narrow windows. These windows have gauged brick arches and stucco-lined reveals, and are fitted with late 19th century sashes. The ground-floor windows are round-headed, set within round arched recesses that rest on a stucco band. A set of three steps leads to a large, quasi-Tuscan porch, featuring paired columns, a hollow pediment, and balustraded sides. The entrance has a four-panel door with a plain fanlight, within a round-headed opening. A small entrance extension projects from the east side. The two-storey west wing has a gabled front and three windows, those on the ground floor being grouped. The windows of the west wing are similar to those of the original house, except for the stuccoed keystones and projecting cills with cast iron guards to the first-floor windows. An additional window has been inserted on the first floor to the left. Nos. 10 to 15 (consecutively) and the forecourt walls form a group.
