Description
No 2 Grote's Place is an early 19th century house that stands three storeys tall with a basement and features two windows. The right bay is narrow and set back. It is constructed of yellow stock brick and has stone rusticated quoins, a mutule cornice, and a parapet. The windows have gauged flat brick arches and are replaced recessed sash windows with glazing bars. The left window on the first floor is set in a round arched recess with stone impost blocks and a cill band. The ground floor has a round headed window in a similar recess, which is stuccoed. To the right, there is a door with six beaded panels, flanked by fluted quadrant pilasters, topped with a mutule cornice head and a patterned radial fanlight under a round gauged brick arch. Wrought iron area railings are present. There is an abutting wall to the left with a garage entrance. The building has been significantly rebuilt after sustaining damage during the war. Nos 1 to 4 Grote's Place form a group.
