Description

Nos 17 to 21 on Deptford Broadway form a terrace of houses, likely dating from the late 17th century, although only No 20 retains any original features.

No 17 is three storeys high with three windows and has a rounded mansard roof covered with slate. The front is stuccoed from the mid-19th century and features rusticated quoins, a heavy entablature, and a high parapet. The windows have moulded architraves, with cornices above those on the first floor, and a pediment above the centre window. The ground floor has a modern bank front.

Nos 18 and 19 are four storeys tall with four windows in total. They have a stucco front with a parapet. No 18 features plain reveals for its late 19th-century sash windows, while No 19 has moulded architraves with cornices on the first floor. Both have modern shop fronts on the ground floor.

No 20 is three storeys high with two windows. Its stuccoed front has a modified entablature and moulded window architraves, along with a stone eagle on the parapet. The ground floor has a modern shop front. Inside, there are two flights of late 17th-century stairs with a solid string, turned balusters, and a square handrail, along with one pendant. In the first-floor front room, there is a round-headed cupboard with fielded panelled doors.

No 21 is three storeys high with one window and has a stuccoed parapet front. It features moulded architraves for modern casements and a modern shop front on the ground floor.
