Description

This is a terrace of 16 pairs of flats, numbered 1 to 32, on Cardigan Street, London SE11. Built between 1913 and 1914 by Adshead and Ramsey for the Duchy of Cornwall estate, the terrace demonstrates group value through its cohesive design.

The buildings are two storeys high and each pair contains two windows. They are constructed of yellow stock brick with a key-patterned stucco band marking the first-floor cill, a stucco dentil cornice, and a parapet. Every fourth pair of flats subtly projects from the facade. The windows are sash windows with glazing bars; those on the ground floor have a round-headed shape with interlaced bars in the heads, set within gauged brick arches. The entrances consist of paired doors within trellis porches, each with a swept lead roof. The doors are half-glazed and feature Gothick glazing patterns. Low wrought iron front railings run along the street.
