Description

The tomb of Sir John Dean Paul, who died in 1852, is located in Kensal Green Cemetery and was designed by John Griffith, the architect responsible for the cemetery's buildings. This mausoleum is built in a classical style using Portland stone. It features a blocked door flanked by two Doric columns in antis, with a frieze above that reads "THE TOMB OF THE PAUL FAMILY." The tympanum of the pediment is decorated with a heraldic shield and rinceaux, while the sides of the tomb are enhanced with pilasters. Sir John Dean Paul was a banker and a key supporter of the General Cemetery Company, playing a significant role in the establishment and design of Kensal Green Cemetery.
