Description
Numbers 1 to 4 Thornhill Grove comprise four terraced houses dating from around 1840. The houses are built with stucco that mimics ashlar over brick, with stucco detailing. The original roofline is obscured by pediments. They are arranged in a sidehall entrance plan with a staircase within. Each house has two storeys and a basement, with two windows visible from the front. The facades are designed as a terrace of two semi-detached houses, with an entrance in the outer bay of each pair. The end bays of the terrace are narrower and set back. Steps lead to the original entrances, which feature four-panelled doors (though the door at number 3 is a 20th-century replacement), pilaster jambs supporting corniced heads, and rectangular overlights. The ground and first floors have eight-paned architraved sash windows. There is a stucco cornice, and the inner bay of each pair is topped with a separate stucco pediment. Attached area railings complement the houses.
