Description

Numbers 1 to 6 on Bingham Street are a row of terraced houses built between 1843 and 1844, originally consisting of seven houses, with number 7 destroyed during the Second World War. The houses are constructed of yellow brick in Flemish bond, with stucco detailing and slate roofs. They are two storeys tall with a basement, each featuring one window. Numbers 1 and 4 project slightly forward, while numbers 2 and 3, and 5 and 6 are separated by narrow vertical recessed panels. The basement is stuccoed.

Number 1 has a single-storey porch on the side, while numbers 2 and 3, and 5 and 6 have paired recessed porches, and number 4 has a single recessed porch. All porches have steps leading up, adorned with cast-iron railings, Doric pilasters, entablatures, and panelled doors of original design for numbers 2, 3, and 5. The ground-floor windows are flat-arched with stucco architraves; number 1 features an entablature, and numbers 2, 4, and 5 have original design sashes with margin lights.

The first-floor windows are also flat-arched with stucco architraves, and number 1 has an entablature, while number 3 has sashes of original design with margin lights. There is a stucco cornice and blocking course, with stacks on the party walls. The houses have a mansard roof with dormers on numbers 3 and 4. Numbers 5 and 6 were raised to three storeys above the basement at the rear at an early date. These houses are part of a group that includes numbers 8 to 13 on Bingham Street.
