Description

This is a row of three-storey terraced houses, with an incorporated shop, dating from around 1840. The houses are built of yellow brick in a Flemish bond pattern, with plastered sections. The roof is hidden behind a parapet. The houses have basements and ground floors that have been stuccoed, with the ground floor scored to resemble ashlar. Steps lead to a segmental-arched entrance with Doric pilasters, a cornice, and panelled doors of an original design, along with an original glazed fanlight to numbers 180 to 188. A decorative sill band runs above the first-floor windows, which have flat arches within stucco architraves, cornices on consoles, and balconies with cast iron railings. A further sill band is above the second-floor windows, which also have flat-arched windows with architraves. A dentil cornice is formed of projecting bricks, and is topped by a parapet. Number 190 has a 19th-century shop front to the ground floor with a central entrance, and a side entrance at the end of the terrace, showing remnants of the original door surround. The upper storeys replicate the detailing of the rest of the terrace, but the front of number 190 has been rendered in plaster and the balconies have been removed.
