Description

No. 9 Cumberland Gardens is a pair of semi-detached houses built in the early 19th century. They are constructed from yellow brick set in Flemish bond, with stucco detailing and a slate roof. The houses rise two and three storeys over a basement, each featuring two windows. The main facade faces south, showcasing an inner three-storey bay for each house beneath a shared pedimented gable, while the outer two-storey bays are set back slightly.

The entrance to No. 9 is flat-arched and located on the side, framed by stucco pilasters and an entablature, featuring a reeded doorcase, overlight, and a panelled door that retains its original design. In contrast, No. 7 has a flat-arched entrance within an enclosed stucco porch supported by Doric pilasters.

All windows are flat-arched; the inner ground-floor windows are tripartite with stucco architraves and cornices, while the inner first-floor windows also have stucco architraves. The outer windows feature heads made of gauged brick. A moulded stucco cornice runs along the inner bay, transitioning to a cornice and blocking course on the outer bay and around the return. No. 7 has a flat-arched attic window that has been rebuilt as segmental for No. 9. The pedimented gable is complemented by a stack on the party wall.
