Description
This is an early 19th-century terraced house, part of a group of properties on Lloyd Baker Street. The building is constructed of yellow brick in a Flemish bond pattern, with stucco detailing and slate roofing. It is two storeys high with a basement, and has two windows on each floor. The houses are arranged in pairs, with the inner bay of each pair sharing a pedimented gable with its neighbour, while the outer, entrance bay is set back. Each pair originally featured stucco porches with antae, flat-arched entrance doorways with panelled doors, and recessed windows set within stucco panels. The ground-floor windows are flat-arched, flanked by pilasters, while the first-floor windows have segmental arches. There are stucco impost blocks and archivolts above the recessed windows, and a round arch over the first-floor window above the entrance. Cast-iron railings originally served a balcony over the porches. The inner bays have stucco pediments, while the outer bays have a parapet. Chimneys are located within the party walls.
Number 30A is a stuccoed, two-storey addition with a projecting ground floor and a canted bay window on the first floor. Numbers 30-32 retain their original flat-arched overlights and sash windows. Number 33 also retains original sash windows, as do numbers 35-8. However, the first-floor window above the entrance at number 35 has been altered into a doorway. Number 40 is a two-bay block with no porch or recessed entrance; it has a flat-arched entrance with an overlight in the right-hand bay, and retains the cornice and blocking course where a pediment would have been. Cast-iron railings are present to the steps and area, with some houses featuring gate piers decorated with anthemion ornament.
