Description

Numbers 9 and 10 are semi-detached linked villas built around 1833, located on a slope in Lloyd Street leading into Lloyd Square. They were designed by John Booth and his son, also named John, who were surveyors for the Lloyd Baker Estate, with architectural contributions from William Joseph Booth, another son. The villas are constructed from gold stock bricks in Flemish bond, featuring stucco dressings and a stucco pediment above the pair. Number 10 has a gabled roof covered with Welsh slate, while number 9 is obscured by a parapet. Both houses have central brick and stucco rendered stacks and exhibit a restrained Greek Revival style.

Each villa has a side-hall entrance plan linked by a bay. They are two-storeys high with a basement and three windows each, including a recessed one-window entrance bay that connects them. Low steps lead up to a deeply recessed stucco entrance supported by antae and topped with an entablature. Number 9 features an architraved doorway with an original panelled door and a rectangular overlight, while number 10 has undergone 20th-century alterations. Both houses have architraved sashes: number 9 has predominantly 6/6 sashes, and number 10 has 1/1 and 2/2 sashes. The first floor includes a recessed balconied link with narrower sashes, a plain stucco band, and a band beneath the pediment. The stucco parapet has a coping or blocking course above the recessed link. Attached to the front are cast-iron railings with fir cone finials.
