Description

Numbers 41-53 (odd) and attached railings form a row of terraced houses dating from the 18th century. The houses are constructed of yellow brick laid in a Flemish bond pattern, with Welsh slate roofing except for number 51, which has an asbestos slate roof, and numbers 49 and 53, which have obscured roofs behind parapets. They are two storeys high, with a basement, and have dormers in a mansard roof to numbers 41-7 and 51, each house featuring two windows. All window and doorway openings are framed by gauged brick arches. Steps lead to a round-arched entrance, featuring cabled and fluted pilasters, a cornice, a blocked fanlight, and an original panelled door. The ground-floor windows are round-arched with original sash windows having margin lights; the first-floor windows are flat-arched. The parapet has been largely rebuilt. Dormers are flat-arched. Chimneys are situated on the party walls. Number 45 retains original sash windows to the first floor; number 53 features an open fanlight and original sash windows to the first floor. Cast-iron railings are present to the steps and area, although those at number 43 are largely missing, with some finials also replaced or missing.
