Description

Numbers 1-9 (odd) and attached railings form a terrace of houses built around 1825 as part of a development by Richard Laycock. The houses are constructed of yellow brick laid in Flemish bond, with stucco detailing, and their roofs are hidden behind a parapet. Number 1 has three windows and a double-fronted appearance, while the remaining houses each have two windows.

The basement is stuccoed on all properties except number 1. Steps with iron railings lead to a round-arched entrance, where each house has a moulded doorcase – number 1’s doorcase is particularly ornate with fluted pilasters, a deep cornice, and decorative glazing to the fanlight. The ground-floor windows are round-arched with gauged brick heads, while the first-floor windows are flat-arched. The windows retain their original sashes, with radiating glazing bars and margin lights to the ground floor of numbers 1 (ground floor), 3, 5 (ground floor), 7 (first floor) and 9. The terrace is topped by a parapet, and stacks are located within the party walls.
