Description
This is a terraced house, built around 1824 as part of the Alwyne Villas development by Richard Laycock. The house is constructed of yellow brick laid in a Flemish bond pattern, with stucco detailing, and the roof is hidden behind a parapet. It is two storeys high with a basement, and has two bays, though the left-hand bay projects one brick's width and the entrance bay is set back by the same amount. The basement is stuccoed, and a mid-19th century canted bay extends from the basement and ground floor, featuring palm-leaf ornamentation on the capitals, cornice, and blocking course. Steps with iron railings lead to a flat-arched entrance containing a panelled door and overlight, flanked by pilasters. The first-floor windows are flat-arched with gauged brick heads. A simple cornice and blocking course finish the facade. Dame Flora Robson resided here at some point.
