6.6.84 Melcome Primary and Infants School

School. 1901 by T J Bailey. Red brick, buff terracotta, tiled roof. Three storeys. North elevation symmetrical, eight main bays including four-bay centre, divided by rusticated pilasters above ground floor with three windows to each bay; this is flanked by advanced balustraded towers and by further three window wings. Centre windows to each bay on first floor pedimented with decorative terracotta work. Other windows square headed and sashed with small panes and glazing bars. Cornice, blocking course. Entrances beneath Towers. Southern facade of equal importance, with six-window centre block flanked by square tower with pyramidal roofs, but unfortunate late twentieth century extension to right. Dated panel facing Fulham Palace Road. Included as unusally elaborate, well preserved. Example of Bailey's late School Work.
