Description

This is an administration block, originally built in 1878 as part of Queen Charlotte's Maternity Hospital, with a probable earlier, 19th-century wing to the right. The building was designed by Brandon and is constructed of decorative stucco in a Neo-Gothic style. It has a slate roof and includes crenellations between the dormers. The main two-story block has a basement and a dormered attic. It features seven bays with hood-moulded casement windows, including one square projecting window to the right. Decorative banding runs between the ground and first floors, and below the main cornice. A one-bay, two-story connecting bay leads to the right, featuring a glazed entrance, followed by a four-bay, two-story wing with two left-hand bays under a stepped gable. A crenellated parapet with pinnacles tops the building. A single-story bay situated to the left incorporates a four-centred arch and elaborate iron tracery.
