Description

This is an early to mid-19th century pair of buildings, numbers 9 and 11, each two storeys high with an attic and basement. Each building originally had one window in the main block and one in a recessed entrance bay. The roofs are slated mansards with dormers and a central chimney stack. The buildings are constructed of yellow brick with stucco detailing, including a decorative frieze, cornice, and blocking course. The first-floor windows have gauged flat brick arches, though number 9 has been modernised. The ground floor features casement windows in round bows, topped with entablatures and ornamental cast iron balcony railings. Number 11 has a low, curved lead canopy supported by wooden posts. Steps lead to four-panel doors (number 9) and two long panel doors (number 11), both set within moulded architraves and pedimented porches. Some decorative details are missing from number 9’s porch. A plaque at first-floor level reads "BRIGHTON VILLAS". Numbers 9 and 11 are considered part of a group with numbers 5, 7, and 13 to 19, which contribute to the area’s local character.
