Description

This is an early 19th century terrace of four houses, numbered 10 to 13, Clapton Square. Each house is three storeys high with an attic and basement, and originally had two windows. The roofs are Mansard style; numbers 10 and 11 are tiled, while the others are slated, all featuring dormers. The houses are constructed of stock brick with a stone-coped parapet. The windows are mostly sash windows with glazing bars, although some of the bars have been lost. Number 11 has long casement windows with transoms on the first and ground floors. Ornamental cast iron balconies are present on the ground floors of all houses except number 2. The ground floor windows are arched and set within round arched recesses. The front doors of numbers 10 and 12 have been altered, while the others are original six-panel doors, all framed by slender reeded engaged columns supporting a cornice head and a plain fanlight above. Numbers 1, 12 and 3 have wrought iron area railings, which, together with the railings of numbers 7 to 19 and number 13A, form a group with number 17 Lower Clapton Road.
