Description
The Mortuary Chapel of Abney Park Cemetery is a non-denominational chapel built by 1840 in a picturesque Gothic style. The south wing has a plain, fortress-like appearance with angle towers and a blank first floor above the entrance archway. To the north, a porch bay leads to the main chapel, which features an octagonal tower with a spire, one-bay arms on three sides, and a small apse to the north. The chapel is constructed of grey brick with stone dressings. The lower windows are mullioned and transomed, while the tower windows display Perpendicular-type tracery. The building is supported by many tall gabled buttresses, and the interior features pointed vaulting. It is included partly for its landscape value.
