Description
The monument to Isaac Watts is located in Abney Park Cemetery and was created in 1845 by Edward H Bailey, a Royal Academician. It features a heroic-sized figure of Watts in academic robes, holding a book, which stands on a classical plinth above a tall, battered base. Surrounding the monument is a cast iron fence. The base is inscribed with a eulogy by Dr. Johnson, as well as a legend stating that the statue was erected by public subscription in 1845. Additionally, the life dates of the famous preacher, 1674-1748, are also inscribed on the monument.
