Description
Clapton Park Lower School is a late 19th-century board school. It is a large building constructed of stock brick, featuring dressings of red brick and terracotta, with high-pitched tiled roofs that include both hipped and gabled sections. The building consists of four sections:
Firstly, on the extreme left, there is a projecting blank gabled wing with a chimney breast. This wing has a left return that features one stepped gable and two pedimented gables, along with terracotta rusticated window architraves.
Secondly, there is a plain five-storey section with three windows, which is only enhanced by moulded strings.
Thirdly, a narrow two-window staircase bay made of red brick rises six storeys and includes an attic. This bay has a shaped gable decorated with terracotta lesenes, angle turrets, and a medallion inscribed with "L.S.B."
Lastly, the main building on the right is three storeys tall with five windows. The bays are divided by thick brick pilasters that rise through the cornice and fit into raised sections of a battlemented parapet. The roof is topped with an ogee cupola featuring a spirelet.
