Description
Santley Junior Mixed and Infants' School is a late 19th-century Board School designed by a team of architects led by E R Robson. The building features a symmetrical layout with a main block that is three storeys high, plus an attic, and has five windows. It is flanked by staircase towers that rise six storeys and include attic gables, along with side wings that are five storeys tall and topped with parapets. The structure is constructed of stock brick with red brick and terracotta dressings, and it has a stone-coped black brick plinth. The main block is topped with a high-pitched hipped tiled roof that includes two dormers and a central bell cupola. The top floor is made of red brick, and the shaped battlemented parapet features ball finials on the pilasters that separate the bays, around which a cornice runs. The gables of the staircase towers are concave and have small pedimented windows flanked by lenses, with medallions above that display the monogram "LSB."
