Description

These are a group of early 19th-century houses located on the south side of Stamford Grove West. The group comprises three pairs of houses (and a half pair, at number 2). Each house is two storeys high, with a high basement and two windows. They are built of stock brick, with low-pitched, slate roofs and a central chimney. The central bay of the row slightly projects.

The ground floor features an arcade with an impost band. Gauged flat brick arches frame the sash windows, which have glazing bars and are set within stucco-lined reveals. Projecting stone cills are complemented by palmette-patterned cast iron guards on the ground floor. A few steps, with a cast iron handrail, lead to the four-panel doors, each topped with a radial fanlight and sheltered by a wood trellis porch with a swept lead roof. Some porches have been altered. Number 8 has had a right bay added with a garage in the basement.

Numbers 2 to 8 together form a group of buildings with group value.
