Description

This is a late 18th-century pair of large houses, numbers 51 and 53 Stamford Hill. Each house is three storeys high with an attic and basement, and originally featured two windows facing the street. The houses are constructed of stock brick with a stuccoed architrave band, cornice, and blocking course. A hipped mansard roof has round-headed dormers and a central wall with a stack. Gauged flat brick arches frame the sash windows, which have glazing bars. Ground-floor and first-floor windows are recessed and framed by a cornice and blocking course. Ornamental cast iron guards are present on the ground-floor windows. Two-storey, one-window entrance extensions are located on either side of the pair. The front doors have been modernised, with patterned rectangular fanlights, and are set within a prostyle Doric porch for number 53, which has a hipped lead roof. Number 51 has a later enclosed porch with a round-arched entrance. The windows of number 51 have also been altered.
