Description
The monument to Samuel Robinson, who lived from 1752 to 1833, is located in Abney Park Cemetery. Made of artificial stone, it features a gothic tomb chest with arcaded sides and quatrefoil enriched ends. This monument commemorates an architect known to have worked for Eleanor Coade's factory. Originally, the tomb was situated in front of the Widows' Retreat Almshouses in Hackney, which Robinson had funded to support twelve widows of Protestant dissenting ministers who followed Calvinistic principles. The tomb was moved to Abney Park Cemetery following the demolition of the almshouses in 1901.
