Description
No 118½ on Shoreditch High Street is likely a former watch house, dating from the early 18th century. The building features a main north front that is two storeys high with four windows. It is constructed of brown brick, with a parapet that has been partly rebuilt. The ground floor sash windows have gauged flat red brick arches, while the first floor has flush framed windows, all of which include bars. On the street front, there are two similar windows on the first floor. The ground floor has a wide replacement window, also with glazing bars, and there is an attic window in the gable end. The entrance door consists of four fielded panels and two flat panels, set in a panelled reveal with a moulded architrave. A cornice hood is supported on carved consoles. This building, along with the Church of St Leonard, the railings to the north of No 118½, and the churchyard gates and railings, form a group.
