Description

No 246 on High Street is a former house that has been converted into a shop. It dates from the mid-18th century and has undergone significant alterations in the 19th century and later. The building is timber-framed with a brick party wall to the now-demolished No 248, and it is weatherboarded throughout. It features hipped roofs covered with Kent tiles and has a triple depth plan with a rear wing that is two storeys high, while the main part is 2½ storeys.

The front of the building has a three-window range, with the upper half storey featuring 6-pane sash windows in flush frames with cornices. There is a canted Victorian oriel window on the first floor to the left, and a flat-roofed projection to the right with a corner sash window. The ground floor has a late 20th-century shop front with large plate-glass windows. The rear of the building includes 6 and 16-pane sash windows, as well as a round-headed stair light with a hornless sash. The interior has not been inspected.
