Description
St Bartholomew's Vicarage is an interestingly varied Gothic building from the third quarter of the 19th century. It was once part of a church that has since been demolished, with a free-standing granite column at the north corner supporting part of an arch that no longer leads anywhere. The vicarage has four storeys and four bays on the front, with the right bay being wider and slightly projecting. It features a parapet on the right and a steeply pitched slated roof on the left, which includes two gabled dormers. The left return has a large stone-coped gable. The building is constructed of stock brick, accented with bands and dressings of red brick and stone. The window treatments vary from floor to floor: the top windows are cusped lancets, the second floor has grouped lights with shouldered lintels and colonette mullions, and the first floor features large plain windows under pointed relieving arches with hoodmoulds, except in the right bay where a cusped round window is positioned above a pointed arched doorway. The ground floor has a pointed arcade with recessed brick panels holding lancets. At the time of the survey, the building was empty and dilapidated.
