Description
No. 57 Dalston Lane is an L-shaped house dating from around 1800, featuring three storeys and three windows. The building is constructed of stock brick and has a stone-coped parapet along with a cill band at the first floor. The basement is stuccoed, and there are gauged flat brick arches above the sash windows, which are set in stucco-lined reveals. The ground floor windows still have their original glazing bars. The entrance door consists of seven beaded panels and is flanked by sidelights, topped with a cornice head and a wide patterned fanlight, all within a quasi-Doric wooden porch accessed by four steps. There is an archway leading to the footway on the right side of the house. Inside, the hallway features an elliptical arch supported by bowed reeded pilasters with feathered capitals. The interior retains some original plaster cornices, woodwork, and carved wooden fireplaces. Ground floor rooms have dado rails, and one room includes elliptical arched niches flanking the fireplace. A graceful curved staircase completes the interior.
