Description
No 5 Copthall Buildings, dated 1872, is a Grade II listed building located in Tokenhouse Yard, EC2. The building is constructed of red brick and features a style reminiscent of Dutch architecture. It stands four storeys tall and has three bays, with a single storey entrance wing positioned at right angles to the main structure.
A notable feature is the finely sculpted stone doorcase designed in the late 17th century City style. This doorcase includes a segmental pediment supported by bearded head consoles adorned with garlands. The tympanum above the door displays a monogram escutcheon surrounded by a garland of fruit, flowers, and foliage. The first floor showcases channelled brickwork, while the second floor windows are framed with rubbed brick surrounds and segmental pediments. Above the third floor, there is a rubbed brick cornice.
