Description

The building at 7 Lothbury, EC2, is an 1866 structure designed by G. Somers Clarke. Constructed primarily of Portland stone in a Venetian Gothic style, it features a narrow front. The building includes a plinth and decorative elements of pink sandstone, rising to five storeys, with an additional storey beneath a tiled roof. The long returns, particularly the western return, are faced with yellow brick, visible where not screened by an adjacent church. A large, enriched arched entrance is present. Above this are recessed four-light windows, with a balcony on the first floor. A bracketted cornice runs along the roof, with a stone dormer at the front and leaded dormers on the sides. Chimney stacks are also present. The returns are built in a similar style.
