Description
No 4 Moorgate is an early 20th-century building with a stone-faced exterior. It has three main storeys, an attic above the main cornice, and an additional attic and dormered roof storey set back behind a parapet. The building features five bays facing Moorgate and a return elevation to Kings Arms Yard.
The design includes a channelled base with channelled Tuscan pilasters and square-headed tall openings with console keystones. There is an entablature at the first-floor level with a mutular cornice, above which giant attached unfluted Corinthian columns connect the first and second floors, supporting an entablature with a pulvinated frieze and modillions. The first-floor windows have alternating triangular and segmental pedimented hoods, adorned with carved open tympana featuring ram's heads and other decorations. The attic is highlighted by projecting piers and a crowning balustrade.
