Description
The Mayor's and the City of London Court is a building constructed in 1893 by Andrew Murray. It features a Perpendicular Gothic style, made of rock-faced stone with ashlar dressings and string courses. The front has two stories, with a three-story return on Basinghall Street. The main facade consists of two three-bay sections, which include mullioned and transomed windows; the first-story windows are cusped and positioned between buttresses. The central entrance is slightly recessed and has a three-bay design, featuring an arched central door with carved spandrels, topped by a four-center-arched traceried window on the first story and a crowning crocketted gable. The facade also includes blind traceried parapets and carved gargoyles at the corners of the flanking sections. The building has slated roofs with gable ends, a stone turret with a lead spirelet over the east range, and an octagonal lantern with an ogee lead cupola over the west range.
