Description
The tomb of Sir Joseph Lister is located in Hampstead Cemetery and dates from around 1893. It is made of granite and features a bodystone type design with kerbing. The tomb consists of a plain rectangular slab that supports a rectangular plinth, which is topped by an inscribed hipped lid. A plain rectangular kerb surrounds the tomb. Sir Joseph Lister (1827-1912) was a pioneer of antiseptic surgery and served as Professor of Surgery at Glasgow Infirmary starting in 1861. This tomb was erected at the time of his wife's death in 1893.
