Description

Numbers 18-22 on Dombey Street are a row of five terraced houses built around 1709 to 1715, with alterations made around 1766. The front facades of numbers 21 and 22 were updated in the early 19th century, while number 20 was refaced between 1965 and 1967. The back of numbers 19 and 20 was rebuilt in 1981. The houses are constructed from multi-coloured stock brick.

Number 18 features a stucco ground floor, with the third and fourth storeys refaced in brown and yellow stock brick. It has a slated mansard roof with a dormer, stands four storeys tall with an attic and basement, and has two windows. The square-headed doorway includes an overlight and a panelled door, with gauged red brick flat arches above the recessed sash windows. A parapet completes the design. The interior has not been inspected. The house has attached cast-iron railings with knobs and discs.

Number 19 has its third and fourth storeys refaced in brown and yellow stock brick. It is four storeys high with a basement and has three windows. The wooden doorcase features carved consoles supporting a pedimented cornice, along with an overlight and a panelled door. It also has gauged red brick flat arches over the recessed sash windows and a parapet. The interior has not been inspected. The house has attached cast-iron railings with torch flambe finials.

Number 20 has a 20th-century tiled mansard roof with dormers. It is four storeys tall with an attic and basement, featuring three windows. The wooden doorcase includes pilasters that support an entablature with a projecting cornice, and it has gauged reddened brick flat arches over the recessed sash windows. A parapet is present. The interior has not been inspected but is noted to have some panelling. The house has attached cast-iron railings with urn finials.

Numbers 21 and 22 have their second and third floors refaced, with a stone sill band on the first floor. They are four storeys tall, with attics that include dormers and basements, and each has two windows. The round-arched doorways feature patterned radial fanlights, cornice-heads, and panelled doors, with number 22 showcasing a stucco archivolt and architrave. They have gauged reddened brick flat arches over the recessed sash windows. The interiors have not been inspected, but number 21 is noted to have original panelling. The houses have attached cast-iron railings with urn finials.
