Description

This is a terrace of four houses, built around 1721. The houses are constructed of brown brick with red brick detailing, and evidence of tuck pointing, with later patching using multi-coloured stock brick to the upper storeys. They are four storeys high with basements, and each house has three windows. Each house has a well-detailed wooden doorcase, architraved in style, with carved brackets supporting hoods featuring panelled soffits. These doorcases are topped with patterned fanlights (except at number 16) and panelled doors. The doorcase at number 12 is particularly fine, featuring fluted Doric pilasters, enriched capitals, carving at the head, and a panelled soffit with enriched mouldings to the hood. The windows have recessed sashes with gauged red brick arches: segmental arches are found at numbers 10 and 14, while numbers 12 and 16 have flat arches. Number 10 exhibits exposed boxing. The buildings have parapets. The interiors are not listed but are reported to contain some original staircases and panelled rooms. Attached to the front of the terrace are cast-iron railings with urn and torch finials. These railings define the areas in front of the houses.
