Description

The Tomb of Frederick Lillywhite is located in Highgate (Western) Cemetery and dates from around 1854. It is made of marble and features a pedestal with a broken column. The tomb has a stepped plinth that includes an escutcheon with carved crossed cricket bats in front of bails being broken by a ball. The inscribed pedestal has an enriched frieze and a projecting pedimented top adorned with wreaths and ribbons in the tympana and anthemia at the angles. At the center, a stepped plinth supports a fluted broken column that is wreathed with a floral and fruit garland.

Frederick Lillywhite was a cricketer known for introducing round arm bowling, and the monument was erected through public subscription.
